Goals for Bout Of Books 9.0

Bout Of Books 9.0 Goals.

My aims in Bout Of Books 9.0 are to get as many of the books listed below read so that I can blast through the reviews at the end of BoB 9.0 and be ready to start on my huge list of books to read in February.
I would also love to participate in as many of the twitter chats as possible and I'm hoping to participate in at least 2 of the challenges. my next task is to decide which challenges.

My books I want to read are:

1. To finish reading The Rain: Rebirth by Amos Cassidy.

2. The Howling Heart by April Bostic.

3. The One You Feed by James Drummond.

4. The Replacement by Rachael Wade.

5. The Ancients Of The Light Series.

6. I would love to start reading The Skullborn books #1 and 2 by Steven Montano.

I'm thinking that these goals may be a little optimistic, but I may achieve at least half of it!

Review: The Stroke Of Midnight A Supernatural New Year's Anthology Presented by Pure Textuality.

*Synopsis and cover from Goodreads

Authors-

Synopsis-

It's New Year's Eve and the supernatural community is ringing in the New Year with style!

Fourteen of your favorite authors have come together to bring you The Stroke of Midnight: A Supernatural New Year's Anthology!

The Stroke of Midnight features fourteen urban fantasy/paranormal short stories. Celebrate the turn of the year with all the creatures that go bump in the night!

My 4* Review-

The first I knew of this book was when I saw a Facebook post by Author J M Gregoire, in the All Hallows Eve Indies Blog Tour group. The post said it was a free eBook featuring 14 authors- bestsellers and debuts, and that bloggers who review are entered into a giveaway to win a $25.00 gift card for an eBook retailer of choice. So, naturally as any book blogger who loves supernatural would; I downloaded the book.

I must admit that I had only ever heard of two of the authors included; J M Gregoire and Brandy Dorsch. These two authors I only met earlier this year when I participated in the All Hallows Eve Indie Blog Tour. That said this collection of 14 authors was a great way to be introduced to new authors and get a taste of their work.

I loved this anthology so much so that even though I had spent 8 hours as work I still managed to read this eBook within 24 hours of downloading it. I was hooked from the start. The collection features humans, werewolves, ghosts, witches, magic and my personal favourite Vampires! I knew some of the characters but I also met sooo many new and intriguing characters.

I loved being able to read new; well new to me; work by authors that I’ve never encountered before. It’s certainly given me food for thought when it comes time for me to buy myself some new eBooks. My overall opinion on this book is good. The authors are all good and have their own writing style. They all do a great job of capturing and keeping the reader’s attention. As well as showing some character development even in these short stories.

So if you enjoy urban fantasy/paranormal stories I would recommend giving this book a read, especially if there are some authors here that you haven’t read before, you may just find your next favourite author.

Review: After The Rain by Karen-Anne Stewart

*synopsis & cover from Goodreads

Synopsis:

Finally able to put her harrowing past to rest, Raina looks forward to her future with Kas, but the Ghost has other plans. As the FBI team gets closer to taking down the largest human trafficking ring in the modern world, the Ghost begins a wicked game, making Raina the pawn and the target. Never before encountering a worthy adversary, he's fascinated by Raina and is enjoying the refreshing challenge of her intellect.
The danger ignites to a blazing new level, and Kas struggles between the need to finally exorcise the Ghost and his need to protect his wife. Tension mounts as an internal battle wages, tormenting Kas as he watches Raina put her all into taking down the man responsible for horrific sex slavery and gruesome deaths. When a new player takes control, Jefferson orders the end of the Ghost's game with Raina, which results in one final, devastating act, leaving Kas desperate and willing to do whatever it takes to save her...by whatever means necessary.

***Disclaimer: Due to sensitive issues of abuse, human trafficking, and adult scenes, The Rain Trilogy is intended for readers 18+

My 5* Review:

This is an emotional heartfelt roller coaster that I couldn’t get off, even if I had wanted to.

The sick and twisted game that Ghost has begun playing is still continuing. Ghost has made Raina both a pawn and the target in this twisted game. There is also a new player; Jefferson; who has ordered Ghost to put an end to his game and to Raina!
The FBI is getting closer to bringing down the biggest trafficking ring in the modern world.

Kas has an incredible internal battle between watching Raina put her all into finding and taking down the evil monster behind the gruesome deaths and sex slavery and his need to protect his wife. Kas is left desperate and willing to do anything to save Raina... by any means necessary.

Can Raina finally put her harrowing and emotional past to rest?

In After the Rain we get an insight into Ghost’s mind. There are sensitive matters that have been handled fantastically by Karen-Anne Stewart.
There are surprises in store that are both good and bad. Raina is proved to be a tough fighter, as well as stubborn and head strong. Kas appears to be more bad-ass and fiercely protective; especially of ‘his’ woman!

The love scenes between Kas and Raina seem more intense and sooo HOT! The characters have developed really well throughout the entire trilogy.

This was a beautiful ending to an amazing trilogy. I would recommend this trilogy to anyone over 18 (due to the sensitive nature of the trilogy); who loves romantic, suspense filled dramatic novels.

I cannot wait for Karen-Anne Stewart’s next novel to be released.

About The Author:

Karen-Anne Stewart is a new author and has only recently discovered that she is now addicted to writing. Her first novel, Saving Rain, was originally going to be a single novel, but it quickly turned into a trilogy. She fell in love with the characters and had to continue the story. Saving Rain is a new adult contemporary romance meant for readers 18 and older.
She lives in the mountains with her family. She loves to read, hike, and travel when she is not writing. She is a sucker for romance, especially a book with a strong alpha male who has a sensitive side. She also enjoys a good mystery and thrillers.
Her favorite author is James Patterson; he is an amazing writer.
With being a newbie, she is just learning all the ropes, but is loving the wild ride.
She plans to write for as long as her fingers have dexterity.

Review: Healing Rain by Karen-Anne Stewart

*synopsis & cover from Goodreads

Synopsis:

Shattered when Raina runs after his marriage proposal, Kas is hell-bent to find her and bring her home, where she belongs. He will bend every law necessary to do so, willing to do anything to protect Raina from her demons and the men who haunt her, going as far as placing his career and life on the line to save hers. Raina will give up everything she has worked so hard to achieve, even flee the country to keep Kas from the wrath and powerful reach of her abusive father.
In the midst of the FBI team closing in on the Ghost, another ghost from Raina's past taunts her, promising that she will be his. Meanwhile, a different trafficking ring is gaining strength in New Jersey. Michael solicits Raina's help, needing her smooth, sultry voice to win the audition for the new singer in the ring leader's swanky night club. Raina knows her life is in jeopardy with the dangers of being undercover, but she is blindsided when she discovers that it's her heart that is threatened with a mortal blow.
Raina tries to heal from the nightmares of her dark past as the grisly bodies of innocent victims surface when the team gets closer to discovering the identity of the man responsible for the infuriatingly clever and powerful slavery ring. When Raina finally comes face to face with the Ghost, he quickly engulfs her in a twisted game of cat and mouse, delivering a veiled threat as he slips through her fingers. As the ghosts of her past and present ensnare her in their deadly web, Raina realizes the danger has just begun.

My 5* Review:

I’m at a complete loss as to where to start on this review.

I read the first book in this trilogy as part of a blog tour; my review can be found Here. I had never heard of the trilogy or even the author until this blog tour invite came through. That said I befriended Karen-Anne Stewart on both Twitter and Facebook. As I posted that I was thoroughly enjoying Saving Rain (Book 1), Karen-Anne Stewart offered me the chance to read books 2 and 3 too. I was soooo happy and excited; I was truly amazed at this trilogy. I digress slightly!

Karen-Anne Stewart has written another amazing book. After reading Saving Rain I knew that I HAD to read the rest of this trilogy. Even though I had other books to read for tours that I had signed up for, I knew that I couldn’t leave Kas and Raina without completing their story.

Healing Rain was just as heartbreaking and awe inspiring as Saving Rain if not more so.

Raina has been through so much already. Then she fell in love with Kas. Raina continues to help bring down trafficking groups. With Chris; the ex-boyfriend’s impending release tensions are running high for Raina and Kas. Raina has so many internal battles to face as well as figures from her past returning to haunt her future. Raina comes face to face with ‘Ghost’ and she is pulled into his sick and twisted game!

Kas is amazing; all he wants is to protect the woman he loves. I can understand his over protectiveness and his fears. Time and time again Kas does everything his power to show Raina that she deserves to be loved and safe. Kas is there for Raina each and every time she needs someone even in her darkest hour and all Kas does is try to show her how much he loves her, but still Raina runs when Kas proposes to her. Can Raina admit her feelings and let love and happiness in?

Kas and Raina have been put through so much and once again they are put through one nightmare after another.

Can Kas and Raina bring down the trafficking ring and catch the ever elusive ghost? Is there a happily ever after for the two of them?

You’ll have to read this amazing book to find out!!

This is a romantic, suspenseful, dramatic and heart wrenching book, an emotionally charged page turner. I couldn’t put this book down! I felt every emotion that Raina and Kas felt. I laughed, cried even sobbed, swooned and felt like my heart was going to stop on more than one occasion.

Dark. Night. Death.

Things Rowan has been trying to avoid for the many years since she was first turned. Her choice: to sleep away the darkness; it beats having to deal with the craziness of life. Or rather, death. However soon after awakening, she stumbles upon a lone figure whose presence is shrouded with mystery.

She assists him in his search for answers making it even more difficult for Rowan to forget her past. She realizes she can’t hide forever as she is literally being sucked back into her chaotic world: a world where both fallen angels and vampires exist, manifested on earth as lapsus and lamia.

Not particularly … friendly with one another.

Rowan struggles to resist her hunger as a demon vampire while dealing with unwanted desires for a fallen angel from the past: a relationship that could only spell trouble. Not to mention the unresolved feelings she still has for a loved one from long ago.

While all of this is happening, they must all seek the hidden evil that hunts them—for there’s an ancient fighting to wake up and destroy everything Rowan holds dear.

My Reviews-

Disclaimer: I was given a copy of these three books as part of the Blog Tour hosted by Girls Heart Books in exchange for an honest review.

I read these books one after the other, only pausing after each book to write my review.

Book #1 Dahlia:
This is a very different and unique approach to vampires; or should I say Lamia. I've never read a book that has the perspective the vampires were originally created by Fallen Angels. This perspective and Christina Channelle's writing style work so well together and are quite refreshing.

The plot moves at a reasonable pace. The start seems a little slower but as this is the first book in the series there is a lot of background information being given to the readers and to Dahlia; who discovers what has happened and why things are the way they are between the Fallen Angels and the Lamia.

There are some serious twist in the plot and some unpredictable events which caught me off guard! I was so shocked at one point that I was sat staring open mouthed at my kindle. If I say more it would be a spoiler for those of you who haven't read this yet!
On to the characters!

Dahlia, I felt that she was a little indecisive and somewhat unobservant; which may have been intended. Dahlia is a likable character though.
Greyson AKA Green eyes! I didn't feel as though I really got to know him as well as I personally would have liked. Greyson's inability to stick to his original plan definitely made the plot better.

The Dahlia/Greyson relationship is something that I would like to see grow more; maybe I will in the remaining books. I felt that their relationship was very quick; there was very little time spent with the two getting to know each other.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Dahlia. The end of Dahlia has left me feeling rather intrigued about the next two books. In Dahlia there is a mention of someone called Rowan. Rowan features in book #1.5 Fallen Tears and that leads me to my next review...

Book #1.5 Fallen Tears:
This is a more emotional book that tells the story of an orphaned girl who is found by a Lamia. This is the start of Rowan's story. From when she was found by Kaji, right through to how she was left with the Cross family; a family of Fallen Angels who have helped to keep the remaining few Lamia concealed from the Fallen Angels.

This novella is beautifully written and emotionally charged. I was drawn into this dark novella very quickly. I was impressed by how much was covered in such a small amount of pages and without it feeling rushed or crammed in.

I love how this book is based more around the Lamia; as I'm a lover of all things Vampire related!

Fallen Tears has left me eager to read Rowan and see how her life pans out, and how Dahlia and Greyson fit in or if Kaji and Adam return. On to Rowan...

Book #2 Rowan:
This book sees the unison of so many strong characters from this book and the previous two books. Rowan is a very character orientated book, so there is so great character progression and development. It's good to see how the characters from all the books so far begin to link together in the overall story.

I felt that the actual plot of Fallen Angels/Lamia conflict had been a little slow and under developed in this book. There are still some very good twists and turns throughout; just a lot more character based.

There is a tension/chemistry between Rowan and Remy, they eventually admit their feelings and there is some progression in their relationship; albeit briefly. Maybe this will continue in a future book.

Towards the end of Rowan there is another name mentioned; Craven. From the little tidbit of information that is mentioned surrounding Craven it seems as though this could be a key role in the conflict between Fallen Angels and Lamia. This brief mention of Craven has left me curious about what may happen in the next book.

Overall I have enjoyed reading the Blood Crave Series and I will definitely be reading the next instalment. If you love vampires then I would recommend reading the Blood Crave Series by Christina Channelle.

Ratings:
Book #1 Dahlia: 3.5*
Book #1.5 Fallen Angels: 4*
Book #2 Rowan: 4*
Overall Series(so far): 4*

Mason's diabolical plan had actually worked.

In a matter of minutes he had kidnapped me, stripping me of everything...money, family, and freedom. It was humbling, depressing, and damn infuriating but I refuse to go down without a fight. I refuse to be defeated.

Boulder will find me. I didn't know how, but I felt it deep in my soul.

Boulder...the one man that made my body quake with just one look. It was madness. There was so much I didn't know about him. For that matter, there was so much that he didn't know about me…like the evil darkness lurking inside me, waiting to be unleashed.

Could he accept me without judging?

That's where most men failed. Accepting the real me. But after years of hardening my heart, and sealing it behind a steel cage, I was ready to give myself to him freely. Knowing, that he planned to take everything I offered with both hands, until all I thought of...and wanted...was him…

Purchase:

Here is an Excerpt from Infinity Unleashed:

“You won’t be taking shit, vampire.” My heart raced. “I belong to Boulder.” My reflexes were off. My mind felt sluggish, but I was ready to fight to defend myself with all my might.
His eyes began to change, becoming cold, feral… burning.
“Do you? You don’t sound too sure of that, Valkyrie.”
He grabbed the back of my head, dragging my face so close our foreheads touched. “I can give you something Boulder cannot—feed the darkness within you until you think of nothing and no one but me. I will be your everything… your lover, your consort. The air you breathe… There will be no one but me!”
A shiver ran down my spine. His tone was hard as ice with a hint of desperation… longing. His words were like a bad omen. A promise he had every intention of following through with. Acting on pure instinct, I reared back, head-butting him in the face. He did not flinch. In fact, the freak’s eyes dilated with lust.
I spat with disgust. “What you offer is nothing compared to what I can provide you with… power.”
His eyes dilated with shock that I knew.
I continued. “Which I have no intention of doing.” I smiled coldly. “You need me, Alik. The darkness within me might want you… but I sure as hell do not need you. And you and I know there is a big damn difference.” Pulling away from his grip, I stepped back. “So go play your vampire compulsion mind games with someone else.”
He frowned. I sensed something in him twitch… uncertainty. Pouncing on his uncertainty, I pressed my point. “Because the one damn thing that will remain as fact… I will always belong to Boulder. End of fucking story.”
Alik’s eyes flashed with rage. “If you push me, Infinity, I will tighten my grip. That is what a consort does. Fight for what is theirs.”
I tried to back farther away, but the power of his voice wrapped around me like a python, squeezing mercilessly. His eyes fixed on me. He looked at my face, hair, his gazing finally lingering on my neck. With the last bit of my strength, I looked away, taking a deep, cleansing breath. My limbs tingled, trying to get the strength to run, but it was no use. Alik dominated me brutally. Class was in session and this was my lesson. He could bring me down to my knees quite easily.
