Review: Four Weddings and a Werewolf by Kristin Miller - Covet Release

Four Weddings and a Werewolf
Seattle Wolf Pack #2

To have and to howl…

Logan Black, former Marine and bodyguard for the Seattle Wolf Pack, hates weddings and has no plan to walk the path to matrimonial misery. But when he’s hired to protect a hot-to-trot wedding planner with a werewolf stalker, he’s forced to put his feelings aside. Not such an easy task when the damsel can turn him on with a single smoldering glance.

Wedding planner Veronica Vale knows werewolves exist, but hates them. One bit her sister, changing their lives forever. When a sexy Marine shows his gorgeous face at one of her wedding appointments, Veronica finds it hard to focus on the task at hand.

The chemistry drawing Logan and Veronica together seems fated, but with Logan’s playboy attitude, Veronica’s hatred for werewolves, and a stalker lurking in the shadows, these two need more than passion to keep them together.

My 4* Review:

Veronica Vale hates werewolves; why? because her sister Leah was attacked by one and now turns into a werewolf every full moon. Veronica thinks that all werewolves are dangerous and she hates them. period. Cue Logan Black.

Veronica has been receiving notes from a secret admirer. Leah's fiance; Jake; thinks its member of the pack gone rogue. Jake sends Logan to keep an eye open for Veronica, catch her admirer and deal with him; without Veronica knowing.

At a wedding planned by Veronica, she spots Logan across the room. Veronica's assistant Heather bets Veronica a $200 pair of shoes that she wouldn't go over and speak to him. After the reception ends Veronica's car won't start, who's there to help? Logan of course! Logan gives Veronica a ride home, he arranges for her car to be taken to the garage and get her car checked out. When Logan pulls up at Veronica's house there is no ignoring the undeniable attraction between them. One thing leads to another, but Logan stops in the middle and he walks away, only because he feels something stir within his wolf side.

After this seem a little strained, they get over it and Logan continues to act as Veronica's bodyguard. She still has no idea that Logan is a werewolf. Veronica's stalker shows up at another one on Veronica's planned weddings in wolf form, and Logan has no choice but to shift in front of her in order to protect her. Veronica is totally freaked out by this, she passes out. She moves into a hotel and Logan continues to shadow her whilst she prepares her sister's wedding. At the wedding rehearsal Veronica realises that she may have been completely wrong about werewolves. But is it too late?

I enjoyed reading this book. Kristin Miller has written this extremely well. The characters are great, I loved the way Veronica and Logan friendship is very on and off again.

Logan is described as quiet the hottie! Logan also has a sense of humour which is seen a few times throughout the book but my favourite was in the florist when he tries to get Veronica to say "Pussy Willow".
Veronica tries to take having a stalker in her stride and not let it affect her everyday jobs and work. She doesn't realise how much she has come to enjoy and rely on Logan being around. But when she does realise this, it comes into doubt as she finds out he's a werewolf and has been lying to her. Can she trust him anymore?

After reading Four Weddings And A Werewolf I picked up a copy of Gone With The Wolf (book number 1) and read that, which is the story behind Veronica's sister Leah. I also enjoyed that book and I will be reading book 3 if there is one coming out!?

Review: Bad Cop by Angela McCallister - Covet Release

Bad Cop by Angela McCallister
Bad Mouth Sequel

A cop who tosses the rulebooks to get his way…

Vampire Ian McCready doesn’t care for Alice Capshaw’s opinions about his version of justice. Her humanity makes her off-limits, but that does nothing to lessen his overwhelming desire for her. To Alice, Ian is just another bad cop as detestable as the one who destroyed her family. She’s attracted to him, yes, but he threatened his way into her agency’s murder case and has too many secrets.

When a new case resurrects ghosts Ian believed long dead and buried, his law-bending ways might result in his execution. The second Alice becomes a target, his cold heart flares into blinding existence. But following the law for her sake may end with devastating results.

I received this copy in exchange for an honest review as part of the Covet Release Blast through Entangled Publishing.

My 4* Review:

I signed up to do a review on this book without actually reading the blurb on the book, the blurb was there to read but I looked at the cover and signed up from that alone! So you could say that I begun reading this without knowing what to expect.
By now you should know that as much as I love vampires when they are portrayed as very dark scary predators, I am only human and still love a good sexy male vampire too!

In Bad Cop Alice is thrown head first into a new job role; Vice Director of the VLO(Vampire Liaison Office); as her boss; Val; is temporarily leaving through pregnancy. Alice agrees to take the job as there is a hefty pay rise accompanying the promotion, which means that she can continue to pay for the medical care for Zach. However the promotion means that Alice will have to work with the police more, this is a problem for Alice as she doesn't like cops, since Zach was shot by a cop 6 years earlier.

No sooner was Val out the door than Alice receives a phone call informing her of a murder, a newly turned vampire murder at that. If the vampire wasn't a rogue then Alice knew she would have to deal directly with the Immortalis, more specifically the Legion Trackers. Cue Killian "Ian" McCready; a seriously hot Vampire(Legion Tracker)! Alice and Ian end up working the murder together especially when another newly turned vampire winds up dead.

As things progress it becomes clear that Alice and Ian have feelings for each other, as much as they try to deny it to themselves.

I found this book captivating. I was engrossed from the beginning. I love the way it has been written and  I love the twists in the plot two, and how the characters are engaging. As well as underhanded behaviour, murder and violence; there is a story of love, lust and romance too.

This is another author that I will be devouring more of her work and will definitely be recommending this book to others too.

About The Author:

Angela McCallister has always wanted to grow up to be someone who would never grow up, and lucky her, that's exactly what she's done. Nothing says adventurous more than being a 16-yr US Navy Sailor with an imagination wild enough to create stories and characters with a paranormal bite. A mother of five, she's gained plenty of story ideas from her family as well as her military experience.

Angela is very laid-back and happy to try just about anything once, from skydiving, sailing, slacklining, Aikido, and even hang-gliding--as long as she doesn't have to subject anyone to her "singing" or make an appearance in a bikini. Like all authors, she's crazy for books, especially Romance, and will talk about them for days. She's currently stationed at Naval Base Ventura County Point Mugu in California where she can be spoiled with some of the best weather in the country. With such platforms as an aircraft carrier, an amphibious ship, and an Aegis destroyer, and duty stations in Illinois, Washington, Hawaii, and California, her experiences vary widely. She's visited Thailand (a favorite), Bahrain, Dubai, Jebel Ali, Hong Kong, Guam, Canada, Mexico, and Singapore. She's a member of RWA San Diego, From the Heart Romance Writers, and Rose City Romance Writers and especially loves to hear from and meet readers and fellow authors.

Review: The Devil You Know by J.M. Gregoire - All Hallows Eve Indie Blog Tour

The Devil You Know by J.M. Gregoire

I received this book in exchange for an honest review.

*Cover and Synopsis from Goodreads
Synopsis:
"Deziree Davanzatti is a thief by trade and to keep herself occupied between jobs, she owns and operates Onyx, a trendy nightclub for the supernatural citizens of New York City.

What else would a 400-something year old demon-human hybrid do with her spare time?

Following a drunken night of questionable decisions, the vampire Michael “Vegas” Tremayne leaves town with no explanation. Dez is left wondering if they made a mistake and if it cost her a price she wasn’t willing to pay – her best friend and confidant.

When he returns after two weeks of no contact, he comes bearing grave news that could potentially change the world forever….or end it all together. To make matters worse, they suspect that someone they know may be behind it all.

An extremely dangerous chain of events has been set in motion and it is up to Dez and Vegas, with the help of his brother Lucas, to find a way to stop it.

From the author of Burning, the short story prequel, comes The Devil You Know, the first full length novel in the Demon Legacy series by J.M. Gregoire."

My 4.5* Review:

In The Devil You Know(TDYK) we meet: Deziree "Dez" Davanzatti a half demon, half human hybrid; who comes across as smart and sassy. Michael "Vegas" Tremayne a vampire; who comes across as being sexy as hell!

The two have been friends forever(at least 400 years). After a drunken night together, Dez wakes up to find Vegas gone. No note, nothing. Dez wonders if they made a mistake by giving into their desires, and if she lost her best friend because of it.

Time passes, 2 weeks to be exact before Vegas shows up again. And he doesn't return with good news either! The news that Vegas has could possibly change or destroy the world as they know it. Things only get worse when Dez and Vegas realise that it may just be someone they know that is behind it.

Lucus Tremayne (Vegas's brother) shows up and reveals that the events that have already happened have had repercussions on him too.

The 3 of them set off on a worldwide quest for a full blood demon. Can they stop him before its too late?

I loved this book. I found myself immersed in the world of Dez and Vegas. On more that one occasion I felt like I was standing alongside them and could visualise the scenes unfolding before me. I would recommend reading the prequel Burning first; its not essential, which was included in the copy I received.

TDYK is like a faced paced mystery/action adventure/supernatural romance all within its covers. its about friendship, love, commitment and betrayal. I think that TDYK is a great start to the series.

J.M. Gregoire has written this book really well, I love the way her characters has been described and developed throughout the book. The descriptions of the places within the story are enough to allow you to be able to picture them in your mind.

There is no doubt that I will be reading more of J.M. Gregoire's books in the future. Go on give it a read!

Author Bio:
J.M. Gregoire was born and raised in New Hampshire, USA and despite her abhorrence for any season that dares to drop to a temperature below seventy degrees, she still currently resides there with her two children and her two cats. Always a passionate reader, her love of urban fantasy books eventually morphed into a love of writing them. She is currently working on the Demon Legacy series and has an urban fantasy thriller project coming up that will be co-written with one of her best friends and favorite authors, Ginny Lurcock.

My 4.5* Review-
Tandy suffers from terrifying nightmares; she’s had them ever since the accident that killed her mother. The nightmares are so bad that Tandy does everything she can to stay awake.

Tandy’s father becomes more and more concerned for Tandy’s well being and sanity, so he enrols her in an experimental sleep retreat in a remote cabin in the Colorado Wilderness.

There are 4 other sleep troubled teens enlisted too; Bodie, Julian, Ione and Katelyn. The retreat is run by Dr Robert Gillman; who claims he can teach the group to control their unconscious minds and their dreams; and his son Cade; who has also had problems with sleeping.

Things don’t quiet go as the Dr had planned as someone ends up dead! The remaining group are stuck in the cabin as the weather has taken a turn for the worst and a snow storm has hit.

Just what will happen now that the real world and the dream world have collided?

I received this book free as part of the Inara Scott’s A Sleep So Dark Blog Tour in exchange for an honest review. This is the first book by Inara Scott that I have read; when I read the blurb for the book I couldn’t wait to join the tour! I wasn’t disappointed, I loved this book.

I’ve never come across a book that considers the dream world as being able to become real, so I found this book refreshing and original. I love the way that the atmosphere for the two worlds have been created using her words.

Tandy has a really good character. Although the thought of being in a remote cabin scares her, Tandy knows that her dad is terrified at the thought of losing her. So reluctantly she agrees to go. Tandy knows that this could be her last chance to save herself.

I also found Cade an interesting character too. He tries to keep his distance from the group. However Cade feels a pull to Tandy, he tries even harder to keep his distance but eventually he gives in. Cade and Tandy gradually get closer, and Cade knows that he must help Tandy face her dreams or risk losing her for good.

This book is full of mystery, suspense and chills. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and I would definitely recommend reading A Sleep So Dark.

About the Author-
I read my first romance when I was twelve, hiding in a storage closet among hat boxes and old shoes. When I was in high school, I wrote a my first novel, a pirate romance called "A Wild and Stormy Passion." (The heroine was the pirate, in case you're wondering.) Since then, I've written young adult novels and romance in almost every category.

I am a dabbler and an emotional sponge. I can't read scary books or anything with an unhappy ending. I reserve the right to love country music, puppies, true love, and happily ever after.

I review books I want to share the word about.

Life's too short to read something you don't enjoy!
