Review: Skeleton Lake by Angela Kulig

After reading PoMI by Angela Kulig I decided to buy 2 of her other books Skeleton Lake and Skeleton Song.

*Synopsis and cover from goodreads
"Unsure if she's drowning or being saved, all Marlow wants to do is run away. Ensnared in a haunting love triangle, she realizes both boys have holes in their hearts; gaping spaces she can never hope to fill.

Scars from loving the same girl, a girl who managed to stay dead.

Now she is being hunted, for what she has become and what she never asked to be. Even as a Skeleton Marlow isn’t the worst thing in the night—she isn’t even close."

My 4* Review:

Marlow arrived at Skeleton Lake with one thing on her mind. Death. After seeing her 'boyfriend' Tyson sitting at the party with his arm snaked around Rachelle. Marlow ran. She didn't know where she was going, only that she needed to get away. Marlow ends up at Skeleton Lake.

Marlow wonders what drowning would feel like. She also thinks that drowning will be the end of problems. It kind of was. It was the end of her life as she knew it, but just the beginning of a life full of creatures she never knew existed. The Hollows. And now Marlow has been thrown head first into their world. She has to adapt and learn to a new life.

The story moves quickly, and doesn't allow the reader to become bored. For example in the past I have found books that contain love triangles to become long and drawn out, however, the love triangle in Skeleton Lake has a unique and original twist and is also resolved quickly and kept my attention.

This isn't a scary book but it is creepy in places. It's the type of creepy that makes you look over your shoulder every now and then.

Overall I really enjoyed this book and I'm now going to read Skeleton Song(the prequel to Skeleton Lake). This book is original and well written. I found Angela Kulig' s use of Skeletons with glowing bones and a magical, mystical lake to be a great original concept, one which I have never come across before.

My Favourite Quote:
"Christian tried to seat Raiden away, but Raiden was quicker. Faster than I knew he could move. Raiden thrust one blue hands behind Christian's exposed breadwinner and ripped out his heart."
