City of Scars (Skullborn Trilogy #1)

Book Blurb-

It’s been three decades since the Blood Queen led her legions on a brutal campaign of conquest and destruction, and the Empires are still struggling to rebuild. Now, in the distant aftermath of the war, the real battle is about to begin.

Haunted by the crimes of his past, fallen knight Azander Dane ekes out a mercenary existence as he drifts from one city to the next. His latest job is to hunt down Ijanna Taivorkan, a powerful outlaw witch desperate to escape her destiny.

Dane and Ijanna find themselves in Ebonmark, the City of Scars, where deadly crime guilds and shadowy agents of the White Dragon Empire prepare for a brutal confrontation. Pursued by apocalypse cults, mad alchemists, exiled giants and werewolf gangs, Dane and Ijanna soon learn a deadly lesson – in Ebonmark, only the cruelest and most cunning can survive.

City of Scars is the first volume of The Skullborn Trilogy, an all new epic fantasy adventure from the author of BloodSkies.

My Review-

City of Scars is the first installment in the Skullborn Trilogy from the totally amaze-balls author Steven Montano.

City of Scars takes place in Malzaria. The prologue is a group of warriors finding their way through the wastelands in order to attack the Blood Queen's forces. However not everything goes according to plan, the events that take place change the course of the war and everyone involved is affected in some way.

Then we move onto the main story, where we meet Azander Dane. Dane is a former Dawn Knight who is now a mercenary. Dane arrives in Ebonmark looking for a new job. Dane manages to wind up working for the Iron Count, his job is to find Ijanna Talvorkan. Ijanna is a bloodspeaker, she has the ability to practice a rare form of veil magic, and it seems there are a lot of people who are trying to find her.

There are lots of characters and their parts that I could continue to summarise but I fear that would spoil the surprise for when you read it yourself! You are going to read it, aren't you? *stares at you*

It's not a secret that I love Steven Montano's books, even though I still have to read Path of Bones, and a couple from his Blood Skies series to catch up completely! But that aside, his books are fantastic. Steven has a fantastic writing style that draws you in, right to the heart of his character's world, and it keeps you there until the very end. The world that City of Scars is based in is still reeling from the war with the Blood Queen, this world is full of some very unique characters and creatures; such as: the Voss, Tuscars, the Chul and the Nek'dool.

It's not just the creatures that have the imagination running wild. Steven has some awesome weaponry too! Weapons like the shek'taar, vra'taar, raak'ma, ka'naar, ring'tai. Steven was brave enough to post his own drawings of these on his website, why not go check them out so you can see how they look? Click here.
This is an epic start to what looks to be another outstanding collection from Steven Montano. This would be another great read for fans of fantasy who want something unique and fresh to escape into.

But don't just take my word for it, go and grab yourself a copy and see for yourself. I'll even provide you with the links for the different place you can buy City of Scars. So what are you waiting for? Go on, treat yourself.
