Review: Enslaved By The Others by Jess Haines

Vampires, werewolves, magi and worse-the Others have joined the mortal world, and there's no turning back now...

As a New York P.I. and Other specialist, Shiarra Waynest has been in plenty of trouble before. But waking up in a windowless room the prisoner of a vampire slave trader is a shock for anyone. Shia has her wits, her bravado, and a couple of used staples, so maybe she can take on a mansion full of serious evil.

But although she's desperate to escape, Shia needs some answers too. Her friends are in danger. There are betrayers and spies among them. And even if she can figure out what's going on and somehow get a message out, she's still a captive of the worst kind...

My 5* Review-

Disclaimer: I received an ARC of this book from Jess Haines in exchange for nothing more than an honest review. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

Wahoo! I'm finally thrown back into the world of Shiarra and Alec!!! I have been waitin patiently for this book for sooo long! To make it better I got to read and review an ARC! That's right I read this before it was officially released! *happy dance*

Shia wakes to find herself in a windowless room and a prisoner of none other than sadistic master vamp Max Carlyle (this is so not where Shia wants to be).

Shia needs to think; and fast, to come up with a plan to get out. She has no idea if Royce *swoon* or anyone else knows where she is, Shia doesn't even know where she is. Whilst captive Shia learns that Sara is still alive but the creepy necromancer is 'looking after' her, she also discovers that Max is selling slaves.

Can Shia work out who to trust? Will she manage to stay alive long enough to try and escape?

It will come as no surprise to know that I have read this series so far several times now. So I'm very familiar with all of the character connections and the emotions surrounding them. If you haven't read the first 5 books then, what are you waiting for? Go read them.

I digress slightly...

At the start of Enslaved By The Others (EBTO) there is a lot of focus on Shia's hate and disgust for Max, which drives Shia to try harder to escape. This hatred of Max stems from earlier in the series but is ever present in EBTO.

As EBTO continues we see Shia grow more and more. Shia is clearly feeling guilty that her actions have dragged her best friend Sara into the paths of the Others and she has been repeatedly been put in harms way as a consequence of Shia's actions. I think Shia is trying to redeem herself.

Every installment in this series sees Shia get pulled further into the Other's world. But she never gives up! Shia is a fighter, she's strong and stubborn, she also has her weaknesses too and she's not perfect which for me makes her a better character and more realistic too.

Max is as sadistic and cruel as ever. He even make my skin crawl. Much to my disappointment Royce doesn't feature as much in this EBTO. When he does its near the end :( This would be my only complaint, EBTO needs more Royce!! (Sorry, I can't help myself a have a very large soft spot for Mr. Royce).

I love the way Jess writes, she always captures my attention, and holds it until the very end. the emotion can be felt, on more than one occasion I wanted to reach in and help Shia and some of the others characters out. The overall plot is really good.

Jess has once again crafted another fascinating installment in this series, I can't wait for the next one.
