With no friends, no family and a life of loneliness ahead, Skye was looking for a reason to fight. To live. To survive. A once happy family was torn apart, leaving a hazy cloud of confusion, abandonment and fear in its wake. Her twin brother, Oliver, was all she had... until the talons of death and the consequences of his dangerous coping mechanism tore his life from him.
Skye was left alone, mourning the loss of her brother and the life he would never live, when Cut Throat Curtis swooped in and taught her to fight; to control her emotional anguish with physical strength. But he was dangerous, a force to be reckoned with. A man with turmoil and secrets of his own. He soon left as quickly as he'd appeared, becoming a ghost in the life she no longer knew.
She had nothing. She had no one.
When all Skye had was her will to survive, fate gave her Thomas. He fought for her, he fought with her and he loved her like no other.
But fate was waiting, ready to strike with the force of a hurricane when she thought she had everything she'd ever wanted. It was coming, the cruel twist of fate that would bring Skye to her knees and threaten her survival once more...
Firstly let me say that I have LOVED every page of this book!!! I felt so much emotion from all the characters.
Skye and her twin brother; Oliver; had lived happily with their parents. But then their father leaves and doesn't come back. The departure of their father has an impact on all of them, but their mother turns to alcohol. It falls to Skye and Oliver to provide for all of them.
Skye and Oliver are really close, but then Oliver dies as the result of the fights he's been competing in. Skye didn't know that Oliver had been taking part in fights. Now with Oliver gone Skye feels like she's completely alone.
Skye begins to spend more and more time with Curtis. Curtis was one of her brother's friends and also one of the other fighters. Curtis tries to help Skye to realise that she needs to live for both herself and Oliver. It's what Oliver would have wanted. Curtis hands Skye a bag of money. Its money that Oliver had been keeping for him and Skye so that they could leave home. Skye thinks that she and Curtis can now take off, but Curtis says no its for her. So once again Skye is on her own. So Skye begins a new life on her own. Until she meets Thomas.
Can Thomas be her HEA? Will Skye be able to let him in? Will he abandon her like her father, Oliver and Curtis?
You'll have to read it for yourself to find out! :)
The characters are so life like. Skye and Oliver were so close, they were inseparable, always there for each other, always encouraging one another. Oliver was Skye's rock, and then...
He's gone. Taken from her in a cruel twist of the author's mind!
Skye is such a strong character, she always seems to come back that bit stronger after each and every set back. Skye's love, anger, hurt, pain, and grief are so intense I could feel them as though they were my own. Her personality grows as the book progresses.
Curtis, 'Cut Throat Curtis'. Is a man with baggage and demons. Curtis comes across as being secretive, I think he has a very dark past. He admits that he uses sex to forget. But I think deep down his heart is in the right place. Skye seems to bring some of that out in him.
Then there's Thomas! Thomas is the mysterious stranger. He captures Skye's attention with a magic trick in an alley. Thomas is sensitive, caring and hot. Thomas and Skye's relationship is good, they are good together. Thomas helps Skye to begin healing, to begin feeling again. Thomas is Skye's unwavering constant.
Miss Sherwin has created a shit storm of epic proportions. She puts Skye through so much and gives her a little bit of a break then throws more at her. Miss Sherwin's writing is fab. She transports you into the heart of the story and envelopes you in the thoughts and feelings of each and every character. Her attention to detail is fantastic. Miss Sherwin gives enough detail to keep you hooked and leaves out just the right amount to keep you guessing.
Survival is... amazing, addictive, it's emotional; I mean really emotional, it's beautiful. Survival had me hooked from the very beginning, and not once did I ever feel bored, lost or tempted to skip anything.
Survival has made me laugh, made me feel nervous, angry, hurt and made me cry. I have been taken on such an emotional rollercoaster and I have loved every minute of it.
I can't wait for book #2 in this series. I think reading Survival is what has caused me issues reading the books that I've tried reading since. I've been hungover.
I would definitely recommend grabbing yourself a copy! Go on be a devil! Look here's the links...
“That dress makes your tits look incredible.” Thomas curled his arm over my shoulders, taking one of my breasts, sheathed in midnight blue, in his hand. “Yeah, well, those trousers are too tight. I could see your cock twitching for me all night.” “Mmm,” he groaned, moving his arm and slipping both hands into his pockets. “It’s been twitching for you for thirty-six hours.” That was how long it had been. Sometimes we would only last an hour without each other. Sometimes we’d go at it all night, multiples times, until I was so exhausted I only just made it to work the next day. And sometimes we would go for days with nothing but a teasing touch and a goading glare. It was what we enjoyed most. The anticipation. Building the need until it was on such a base level we couldn’t stop for hours. It had been thirty-six since he was last inside me. The only contact we’d had was chaste kissing, an ass grab on his part and a crotch stroke on mine. I ached for him; I would have torn my clothes off and rode him on the back seat if it weren’t for the game. We played it every time we went out.
