~Excerpt~

Chapter One
I want to be like Gideon Lee. My lips move as I read the title of my essay. They twitch as I stifle a snicker. Looking around the room, I make sure no one has seen my facial tic. My eyes light upon the Presidents’ pictures lined up on the wall. They face me, each with a unique expression, and I wonder what they were thinking while they posed. They are above the clock so my gaze naturally falls on it. It’s almost time for lunch.I settle back in my seat and my lips twitch again. A feeling of defiant exhilaration washes over me like a tidal wave.Montgomery’s going to freak when he reads this.Despite my best efforts, a giggle escapes and the boy in front of me turns around and gives me the evil eye. I return the glare. He is slumped over, and sweat beads on his upper lip. I think this is odd — it’s rather chilly in the room — but dismiss it before I turn back to my essay.I bet old man Montgomery doesn’t even know who Gideon Lee is. This thought sends another giggle to the surface, but I quickly squash it by biting my lip.I picture him searching Gideon Lee’s name on the Internet. I see his expression changing from confusion to disgust. I imagine him taking off his black, thick-rimmed glasses and shaking his head. I hear him mutter, “Lark Singer, what are you doing?” He rubs his face. I can actually hear the rough sandpapery sound as his hand finds his day old stubble. He sighs and puts his glasses back on. “What am I going to do with you?”I remember when Mr. Montgomery first told us about the assignment. We were supposed to write an essay on someone we admire, someone who has contributed to society in some way. I know when he says this he wants us to write about an a historical figure. After all this is history class, but I raised my hand anyway.“Lark,” he called out as he stood at his lectern.“Do they have to be dead?”He cocked his head as he studied me with his piercing blue eyes. Then he ran his hand over his military style crew cut, and I watched as his salt and pepper hair flattened then popped back into place as if each hair was standing at attention. I could tell he wasn’t sure where this was going. “Well… I guess not.” That’s when he froze, as if he realized he had just opened a door for me and he wasn’t going to like what was on the other side. He shifted his weight, and looked down at the floor before he backpedaled. “But they have to have made a positive contribution to society. It can’t be about a mobster or anything like that.” Pursing his lips, he stared at me, fiddling with those glasses. “This is one half of your semester grade, Lark. I wouldn’t pull any funny stuff.”“Oh, I won’t. Scout’s honor,” I answered sweetly, placing my hand over my heart and giving him the scout salute, while inside I planned my rebellion.I have him. I’m going to write about Gideon Lee, and there’s nothing he can do about it.

~ My 5* Review~

Disclaimer: I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

Madelynne and Parker have known each other for as long as they can remember. After growing up together they begun dating a few years ago. Whilst growing up they have both suffered pain and loss. Parker's brother had committed suicide, and more recently Madelynne's brother was killed whilst serving in the armed forces. So Madelynne is trying to cope with the grief of losing her brother, as well as watching her parents going through a tough phase and looking like they are about to split up.

Madelynne is struggling to deal with all of this and just when it seems like she's handling it better it comes out that Parker has joined the Army and will soon be heading off to basic training. Madelynne is seriously overwhelmed and suggests that whilst Parker is on his basic training that they should have a break; she fears that Parker will end up  like her brother and doesn't know if she can handle that. As Parker heads to basic training, Madelynne heads to Hawaii to stay with family and get her head straight.

However Hawaii holds even more confusion and trials for both Madelynne and Parker. This time it's in the form of Lee. Lee is the complete opposite to Parker, he's unpredictable and a little impulsive. Madelynne feels a strange pull towards him, one that she just can't ignore. So Lee shows Madelynne around Hawaii and they begin spending more and more time together getting to know one another. Could this be the end for Madelynne and Parker?

At the end of Parker's basic training he decides to visit Jacqueline; Jacquline is an online friend that Parker begun talking to help him deal with his brother's suicide. Jacqueline knows everything that Parker has gone through. There's no denying that there is some kind of attraction between them, but for Parker it's not enough, his mind and his heart are set on one girl and one girl only. He heads to Hawaii to go get his girl!

Now with Parker in Hawaii, Madelynne faces a huge decision, the question is who will she pick?? Parker or Lee??

This is my first encounter with Kira Adams, and what a way to start. I loved this book and I was hooked from the start.

Madelynne and Parker are both young and still needing to discover themselves, and as readers we get to share their journey of self discovery.

Madelynne and Parker's story is far from being all rainbows and butterflies, they have to deal with the deaths of their brother's and parental problems too. There are aspects of both Madelynne and Parker's lives that I could relate too. I found it so easy to become engrossed in what was happening to them.

My Forever is packed full of angst, grief, confusion, turmoil and love, all of which are very powerful emotions. Kira has done a fantastic job of capturing and conveying that emotion. The characters are faced with and deal with some very real issues and situations. I think that they handle and cope with them extremely well.

I have enjoyed reading the different POV too. Majority of the book flits between Madelynne and Parker's POV but as Jacqueline and Lee feature more their POV are used too. The introduction of their POV also adds more depth to their characters and makes them seem more realistic. Even though My Forever uses between two and four POV it is at no point confusing, Kira has kept it very clear as to who's POV is being used.

I loved the plot, I'm not a fan of love triangles but I felt that the two intertwining triangles used in My Forever were necessary and they work, they add to the plot. Kira has done an outstanding job at conveying the strength of the emotions that the characters experience, to the point that I too could feel the emotion as if it were my own.

I think that for a debut novel Kira has shown her potential and I think that with each book she will grow from strength to strength. I can't wait to sink my teeth into Beautifully Broken.

BEAUTIFULLY BROKEN

~Synopsis~

Jacqueline Blunt hasn’t had an easy life. In fact, she’s had anything but. From a drug addicted mother to being bounced around in foster care, Jacqueline longed for one thing—normalcy. Lee Bennett had everything he could ever want—girls falling all over him, a dream job, money. The one thing he was missing? Passion.

Sometimes the ones worth fighting for don’t know their worth. Sometimes being broken is beautiful. This is a story of strength, courage, hope, faith, and love. This is Beautifully Broken.

~My 5* Review~

Disclaimer: I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

Jacqueline is broken, she's had a rough upbringing. Her mother is a convicted drug addict and her father; who knows! When her mother was arrested Jacqueline was taken into care, she went from foster home to foster home, until she was emancipated at the age of 15. After thinking that things couldn't get any worse she was diagnosed with Bipolar too. For Jacqueline every day is a struggle. Then she meets Lee.

Lee is the complete opposite to Jacqueline, he also seems to have just about everything; money, a job and girls practically throwing themselves at him. But Lee still feels like he's missing something, he's just not satisfied. Lee has suffered heartbreak in the past and as a result has attempted to close off his heart, he thinks that if he doesn't do relationships then he can prevent anymore pain and heartache. Then he meets Jacqueline.

Do opposites really attract? Together can they overcome they're demons and begin healing?

The synopsis for Beautifully Broken called to me. Obviously after reading My Forever I had to read this, but even before I read My Forever I knew I had to read Beautifully Broken. I was intrigued to see if or how Lee and Jacqueline might work, I mean they really are complete opposites, but they seem to bring out the best in each other too.

I have really enjoyed the fact that for these two it wasn't love at first sight, they spent time getting to know one another and built a friendship before attempting to take things further. It was also a change to see that the lead male was showing a more vulnerable side; as Lee kept backing away before realising that he needs Jacqueline.

Lee and Jacqueline's characters grow more and more with each and every bump they hit, there is a lot of give and take throughout. They certainly seem to help one another.

Kira's writing style has once again kept me captivated until the very last page. The emotion that Kira has captured and portrayed is once again wonderful, and is very real. Kira has stick with the use of multiple POV and it works incredibly well, there's never any confusion. The flow of her writing is smooth and all aspects intertwine seamlessly.

Beautifully Broken deals with some very real issues that a lot of people face and live with, I think that Kira has handled these topics fantastically and sensitively. The raw emotion have been captured and portrayed brilliantly, I felt as though I was experiencing them along with Jacqueline and Lee.

Beautifully Broken is a fantastic book full of love, hurt and anger but it also has the power to give hope too! I have thoroughly enjoyed reading Beautifully Broken and I'm looking forward to the next installment in this series.

Title: Black Moon

~Blurb/Synopsis~

Shea Harper is forced to stay in boring, hot and dry Phoenix, Arizona for college. But once she meets the enigmatic yet positively egocentric Lucian, Shea’s life changes forever.

~My 4.5* Review~

Shea Harper has spent her life growing up with her family and best friend; Aiden. Aiden is like a brother to Shea but all is not as it seems!! Shea and Aiden are about to start College, they move into their student accommodations. And then Lucian appears. After Shea has met Lucian everything changes.

Shea develops feelings for Lucian, but she decides not to tell Aiden. Aiden has a history with Lucian; a history that dates back thousands of years. Now that Shea knows that things aren't as she has always thought, she must decide who's telling her the truth and who to trust.

Will Shea's best friend still be her trustworthy rock? Should she trust the newcomer Lucian?

I really have enjoyed reading Black Moon; I loved the characters, the story, the way in which the book is written, for me it all works really well. The characters were very realistic; as realistic as a 3000 year old vampire can be; and believable too.

Shea starts out as your normal everyday 17 year old. She lives in Phoenix, Arizona; and it's hot and dry, Shea doesn't particularly like it. Shea and Aiden have grown up together, she trusts Aiden with her life. Shea isn't a 'quiet girl', she's got a smart mouth and isn't afraid to use it. Not forgetting that she has learned that she is one of a line of Vessels, which gives her the power to break pure darkness out of its prison.

Aiden has been born every 500 years, his purpose to protect the Vessel. To stop the vampires from taking the Vessel into the depths of the Earth and freeing the Darkness that is Caelius. Aiden and Lucian's history goes back from thousands of years and its not necessarily always pleasant.

Lucian is a 3000 year old vampire, he was created by Caelius! Lucian is broken, he lost the love of his life when he attempted to turn her. He was a young vampire and didn't know that females can't be turned. After losing her Lucian has felt like there is nothing left except to free his father. So the hunt is on again!

The story is told from multiple POV's and it works! It's clear who's POV your reading and never confusing. It's also different to see two author's who have written different characters, they compliment each other so well.

I loved the action packed scenes, especially when Aiden's brothers appear inside Caelius' prison! I'm not saying any more on that because I'd hate to spoil it for you. There is a clear romance beginning between Shea and Lucian, Shea doesn't tell Aiden but that's because she knows of their history.

I was hooked from the start, I just couldn't help but keep reading page after page. As I was reading I was constantly trying to guess just how this would end. I must admit that I definitely did not see that coming!! I need to know what happens to Shea, Aiden, Lucian, Caelius and...

If you enjoy paranormal and vampires I'd really recommend giving Black Moon a read. I will warn you there is a bit of blood and gore too, not loads just a smattering!!

~Author Information~

F.M. Sherrill
Aren't author's bios boring? I always wanted to read one that went something like this:

F.M. Sherrill: recent citizen of earth. Plans on ruling the planet once she gets over the common cold. Or, F.M. Sherrill: time traveler. Decided to alter the space-time continuum by writing a novel, thus changing history slightly, which will eventually lead to the rise of a new human species.

But here it is. F.M. Sherrill is a novelist, A.K.A. an avid bullshitter; that's why she lives in L.A. She's been writing for as long as her ancient mind can remember, devouring tales like an anemic vampire roaming the streets in hot pink heels, always thirsty for more. When she's not writing, she's making steampunk weapons, sewing giant plant-eater Mario plushes, making costumes for some film bloke or cosplayer, and sculpting/casting movie prop replicas while gardening in her urban apartment. Her favorite tools? A soldering iron, a blowtorch, a band saw, a sonic screwdriver, a replicator and an active imagination.
