When I wake up, Jake is no longer curled up behind me. I wish he would have stayed. Actually, I wish he would have made love to me like he said he was going to. I’m thirsty, grumpy, and know immediately from my mood I slept way too long.

As I make my way into the kitchen, I hear pounding coming from the front of the house. When I look up at the clock on the stove, I realize I’ve been sleeping for two hours. So much for a power nap. No wonder my mood plummeted. After grabbing a bottle of water, I follow the noise out into the yard to see what in the world Jake is doing out there.

My breath catches as I open the door and my eyes land on my husband—shirt off, body glistening with sweat, and giving the neighborhood stroller patrol a hell of a show.

Back off, bitches, he’s mine.

As I waddle my way out to him, I flash a fake smile and a wave to the three bitches openly ogling my husband. Two of them have the decency to blush and walk away, but the last one lingers long enough for me to narrow my eyes at her. Jake looks up and his eyes follow my glare; only then does Malibu Barbie begin to move.

“Hi, Jake,” she says with a smile and a wave as she walks by, shaking her tiny little ass and pushing her stroller as seductively as she can. Bitch.

“Hi Jake,” I mimic as she passes, and Jake laughs good naturedly, which pisses me off even more.

“April, stop. You know I only have eyes for you. Although, I’m not sure the same can be said for you after meeting Derek today.”

He did not just go there.

I don’t want to argue with my husband right now. He looks hot as fuck and it’s obvious he’s been working his ass off out here. Our yard now looks like a Halloween wonderland, complete with a graveyard. It doesn’t matter, though; if he’s going to push this Derek issue, we’re going to fight.

You know what? I’m not even going to dignify that with a response. I’m grumpy, hormonal, and it won’t end well. Instead of responding, I turn around and go back into the house, slamming the door behind me.

God, that felt good.

It’s rare when Jake and I fight, and I’ll typically try and avoid it at all costs. Fighting with Jake is emotionally draining. We’re both stubborn and at times won’t talk for days on end. Our fights leave me feeling uneasy, scared for our future, and sad. We haven’t had a bad fight since before the wedding and I’m not looking to have one now.

“What the hell, April?” Jake bites out as he storms in the house, slamming the door behind him.

It doesn’t feel so good when he does it.

“Exactly, Jake! What the hell? Do you see me? I’m as big as a house! I waddle, I’m emotional, uncomfortable, MARRIED to you, pregnant with your baby, and you have the audacity to jump my shit about Derek? Really, Jake?”

I will not cry. I will not cry over Jake and his neanderthal antics.

“Pregnant with our baby,” he corrects sharply.

“Well, you seem to be forgetting that part. How dare you accuse me of wanting Derek when I spend every day growing an extension of our love inside of me? How fucking dare you, Jake Houston?!”

“How dare me?!” he roars, inching closer, placing his hand on the small of my back and pulling me firmly into his embrace.

“He touched you here. This is mine, April. Mine.”

My pulse races as he grips me tighter. I’m so mad at him… but I’m also really turned on.

“Maybe I need to remind you of all the ways you’re mine. We can’t have you forgetting who you belong to, April. Especially when Derek smiles at you as if you’re his one and only because we both know you belong to me and only me.”

“Jake.” My whispered plea is captured by his lips. Those lips fit so perfectly against mine—there’s no way God didn’t intend for them to be there for eternity. His tongue meets mine in a synchronicity which can only exist between us. A fire burns deep inside my soul, one only he can light.

and more on the way.

~My 5* Review~

Disclaimer: I received free ecopy as part of this blog tour and in exchange for nothing more than an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are entirely my own.

When I saw the email asking me to join this blog tour I was soo excited. Why? Because I had thoroughly enjoyed reading Night Of Elisa by Isis Sousa. So I jumped at the chance to review Eleanor's Gift; without even reading the blurb/synopsis; I'm really glad I did!

Eleanor is the sole survivor of a carriage accident. Lord Welton finds her and takes her home to let her recover and recuperate. But then some strange things begin to happen around Lord Welton's home. Can these things be linked to Eleanor's presence?

Eleanor's Gift is a short story but it doesn't disappoint. The characters are realistic and well thought out. The cover and art work are absolutely amazing. Once I started reading I was totally hooked.

Isis Sousa has demonstrated her wonderful talent of creating a world and characters that draw you in and make you feel apart of each and every page.

I have thoroughly enjoyed reading Eleanor's Gift and I'm looking forward to reading more of Isis Sousa's work.

I'm giving Eleanor's Gift a massive 5* Rating.

The darkness
A downpour washed the dark pointed roofs, old cobblestone roads and woods surrounding Rivercrook. The strong wind shook the plants and carried away their yellow leaves. It howled at windows and doors, scaring infants and their mothers. Lightning flashed around the town’s monuments and sculptures, distorting stone faces and casting twisted shadows.

On the old cemetery road there was not a soul to be seen, yet the shadow-play of the storm made the graves seem to dance without rhythm or grace. Soon there came a wagon, pulled by two horses running for their lives and tormented by the lashes of a mad coachman; only a mad person would dare to travel in such conditions.Inside the wagon, in complete darkness, a lady held tightly to the bench. Her breathing was shallow, her heartbeat so strong she could feel it in her throat. The wagon rocked terribly and threw her belongings in all directions.

The wagon hurried along that road and then took an exit onto an earthy countryside bridleway, narrower than the roads across Rivercrook and much darker, as the trees grew tall on each side and formed a natural roof of branches and leaves. The only light the coachman could count upon was the faint reddish-yellow glow of his lamp. He knew they needed to make their way along the bridleway to the clearing. It wouldn’t take too long, but still he lashed the exhausted horses to run even faster.

They were almost there when the dying light flickered one last time. Now there was nothing but the darkness amidst the trees. The coachman saw the clearing when it was illuminated by lightning. Once they crossed it, it wouldn’t be long until they reached their destination, just a day or two more of harsh travel.

The terrain was uneven and soaked, making it difficult for the horses to stay on course. The storm obscured the moonlight and the frightening flashes were now resting in the clouds so the travelers could not see where they were going. The coachman was forced to slow the horses against his will. He had a calling, a duty to fulfill, and it could not wait any longer.

But the powers of nature can go with you or against you, and that night, despite having come so far – already such a great victory – nature was indeed against the struggling man. All it took was a slide of the left-hand horse to drag the other horse and the entire wagon with it, down the soft, muddy cliff that gave into the river. The horses, the coachman and the lady struggled against the darkness and the waters.

In Kinetic we meet Kevin Pierce, he is a teleporter who worked for the Org too. Static follows Kevn and tells his story. In Static Kevin is tested time and time again; everything from his powers, his sanity to his relationships!

Kevin's character has definitely grown and developed, his powers too have become much stronger. He still possesses his snarky attitude; which I loved back in Kinetic.

Static brings new characters as well as some of the old ones too. These new characters bring with them new issues and new insights and attitudes too. I felt that these characters were more realistic too.

This was another good book full of action, some romance and betrayal too.

Another good 4* rating from me.

~My Review~

Disclaimer: I received a free ecopy as part of the tour and in exchange for nothing more than an honest review. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

Kinetic introduced me to the world of Luminaries; people with powers, they're a bit like superhero's. The main character is Annie; she works for the Org (the Luminaries Organisation). The Luminaries help out Government agencies to solve crimes.

When Annie's ex-husband Nick keeps showing up, the head of the Org; Derek; tells Annie that Nick is after her and her unlimited power. As the story continues it becomes clear that someone is lying to Annie, but can she find out who it is? And why they're lying?

The plot in Kinetic is good, for me it started a little slow, but it flowed and when the pace picked up it really did pick up. I felt as though there was occasionally a bit too much going on and it became a little hard to keep up with everything and take everything in.

The characters are engaging and I felt as though there had been a lot of thought behind each of them. That said I felt as though some of them were lacking the ability to feel real.

Overall I did enjoy reading Kinetic and I give it a 4*rating.

Review: Retribution by K.A. Salidas

*Cover art and Synopsis from Goodreads

Immortality is never guaranteed...

As much as she dreams of a simpler existence, blood and violence are Mira’s way of life. Former gladiator turned freedom fighter; she’s carved a trail from New Haven to Caldera Grove and back, freeing her people, the vampires, from enslavement by the humans.

But with victory almost within reach, a new and powerful enemy emerges. One who’ll be satisfied with nothing less than complete subjugation—or destruction—of all supernatural beings.

With a secret army of his own, he’s more than prepared for any resistance Mira and her patchy rebel forces can offer, and demands their immediate surrender.

Never one to back away from a fight, Mira believes she’s ready for anything. But with the battle lines drawn she will be forced to make the ultimate sacrifice.

Kill or be killed.

~My Review~

Disclaimer: I received a free ecopy in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

In Retribution we rejoin Mira and her battle for safety and peace. But things are far from peaceful. Even though New Haven and several of the other Iron Gate territories have signed a peace treaty, Lone Star haven't. Mira and the council are trying to establish peace with Lone Star but the Magistrate is very willing.

After a video meeting with Regent Marshal Ballard and Magistrate of Lone Star it seems that war is inevitable. Can war be avoided> Will Mira and her people ever be able to live in peace?

Retribution was a fantastic book. It's full of tension, action, dram and emotion. There are twists and turns that keep you wanting more and more. Retribution easily transported me back alongside Mira. I could picture the events as if i was there with her and her friends.

The POV in Retribution changes with each chapter but Ms. Salidas clearly states who's POV we are reading at the beginning of the chapter. The changing POV I think works really well, as it provides an insight into the other characters and how they feel and think about the events as they unfold.

Ms. Salidas has incorporated so much energy and emotion into Retribution. Her hard work shows with each and every page. I'm so happy to have been able to read Retribution, and I'm really looking forward to the next chapter in Mira's story.

Retribution scores another mega 5* from me!!

If you haven't read this series I would really recommend starting at the very beginning I don't think you'll be disappointed.

~My 5* Review~

Disclaimer: I received a free ecopy in exchange for nothing more than an honest review. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

This book was amazing. It's full of romance, twists, turns and soo much emotion.

Chasing Cassidy launches us into the world and life of Cassidy Pope. We get to see Cassidy as a child and then as an adult. Cassidy's childhood after the age of 6 was positively hellish. It's starts after the death of her grandmother; her father's mother.

After his mother's death, Cassidy's father moves them into his childhood home; I think he hopes this will help him cope with losing his mother. However, moving into this house seems to increase his demons and he finally seems to lose control. Cassidy bears the brunt of he father anger. Cassidy has been verbally abused by her father, but now things take on a whole level. On this particular day he beats her on the driveway with his belt.

Unbeknown to Cassidy or her parents this is witnessed by one of the other children in the neighborhood; Zachary. Upon witnessing such a horrible act Zach decides that he needs to make sure this innocent little is OK, to do this he talks his twin sister Rylee. Zach convinces Rylee to go and ask if this girl can come out to play, neither Zach or Rylee realize just how much of an impact this gesture will have on their lives.

As an adult Cassidy has managed to continuously battle her demons and the impact her father's actions/words had on her. As we reach Cassidy's wedding day her nerves are eating away at her and her insecurities aren't helping. In the lead up to this day there is someone who has been exploiting Cassidy's insecurities and trying to make her doubt if she is worthy of love, this person chooses her wedding day to give one more push and manages to make Cassidy flee. After Cassidy flees the truth comes out as to why she has fled causing a  huge rift to open in one family.

Tension is high and Zach heads off to track down the love of his life and show her her true worth. But has too much damage been done already?

This is an amazing read. Ms Kelly has incorporated some amazing twists and turns into this brilliant plot. The story that has been woven has so many layers, so much depth and is incredibly realistic. The emotion flows from the pages and I couldn't help but feel connected to the characters. Each character plays a key part and they interact effortlessly.

Once I started reading Chasing Cassidy I didn't want to put it down until the very end, but at the same time I didn't want the book to end. I have loved each and every page in this amazing story.

Another whooping 5* read.

Placing my hand behind her head, I gently roll her over and position myself on top of her. I’m going to make this girl feel the depths of my love if it’s the last thing I do in my life. “I love you,” I whisper a breath away from her lips then cover her mouth with mine. I take my time kissing her then pull away slightly. “I’m going to love you and only you until the day I take my last breath,” I tell her softly before meeting her lips again, claiming them with mine. This time, I kiss her longer but still don’t breach her mouth with my tongue. Again, I pull away just a bit but whisper into her mouth in hopes that my words will not only weave themselves into her mind but also into her heart. “Love is love. It comes without strings, without obligation, without judgment, without fear. It is unconditional and all-consuming. I couldn’t separate my love from you if I tried, so please stop trying to push me away because I’m not going anywhere, baby.”
