Review: Cirque Act 1 by Ashleigh Giannoccaro

~Synopsis~

A boy looked in a window, to see a naughty show
Through the pane of pain, the master clown did blow
The circus is a holy tent, the keeper of my rhyme
Where I forged my chains, creating this pantomime
Pretending to be normal, I wait until after dark
Then I paint the frown on, get a whore from the park
At the bottom of that bed was a darling in a chest
She watched with big eyes, horror hooking her from rest
She dances for the maniac, twirling on her strings
I will make her mine, sharing damaged things
I will be her riddle, she will help me grin
So why does she run away, she has to let me in
No one loves the clown, not even the midget
We’ve gone too far, she will know my secret
Love can break the hardest mask, I know this to be true
Nightmares have hearts too, I only needed you

~My Review~

This is the first book by Ashleigh that I've read so l had no idea what to expect. And what a book to begin with!

He used to creep about behind the scenes at the circus, one night he peered through a window & saw something he shouldn't have, instead of walking away he stayed and watched. Now forever a part of him, the secret within is becoming harder to hide.

She used to be in the box at the end of the bed, hiding but still witnessing things that would haunt her for the rest of her days, but the circus is in her blood it calls to her. She longs to return.

What should happen if these two should ever meet? You need to read Cirque to find out.

This review has proven quite difficult to write as I don't want to write anything that may spoil it for anyone else. So I will stay away from the storyline as much as I can.

The characters were extremely complex & realistic. Each of them played their role well & added another layer to this awesome web that the author has woven.

Sivan is a businessman by day, who is constantly having an inner battle with his down who wants to be centre stage. Sivan tries to keep this part of him hidden away from his family & friends. But when his sister; Sam; introduces him to Imogene, the Clown becomes harder to control.

Imogene performs at a burlesque club. And is biding her time until she can leave town & return to where her true passion lies; the circus. But she has her own demons that plague her dreams, she has her routine which helps her thoughts settle & helps her to feel safe.

The storyline is like nothing I've read before. The imagery the author creates is second to none. I know there are many people who are scared of clowns, I however am not it find some creepy but not all of them.

As Cirque Act 1 is the first of Ashleigh's books I've read I cannot comment on the consistency of her writing between books. But as a new to me author I can say that I will be catching up on everything I've missed to date!

Asheigh's style is fantastic, she portrays the scenes & emotions in such a way that as a reader you become immersed in the events as they unfold. I felt as though I could have reached out and touched everything from the characters to their surroundings. Sivan & Imogene's emotions were realistic to a point of feeling as though they were my own.

Cirque Act I has been an incredibly enjoyable adventure & I'm definitely locking forward to reading Act 2 when its ready. I'm intrigued to see the next level in this twisted story.

Will you find that you can love a clown? Dare you delve into Cirque Act 1?
Honestly I believe that you will love the clown & that you won't regret reading Cirque Act 1. There's no question in my mind that this book deserves a rating of...
